Scale insects

Over the last few years I have neglected my pest prevention spraying (lesson learnt). As a result I have seen a noticeable reduction in the vibrancy of some of my bonsai. My black pines have suffered the most. Here are some photos of some scale I have found. I have also had what I think are woolly aphids and mealy bugs in the pines.  I have retaliated with Eco Neem oil and Confidor. Fingers crossed for the results.  It’s interesting to watch how the ants interact with the scale. Some sort of symbiotic relationship I suspect. You can see more of my macro insect photos here.
